Crisis & Controversial Issues
U.S. Campus Ministry Crisis Protocol:
If CCC staff are in a situation (medical, moral, financial, criminal, political, natural, or spiritual) that involves the law, insurance, CCC reputation, or it just makes sense for the care of our staff, then they should call the CRISIS CALL CENTER:
The Crisis Call Center will then notify or involve the appropriate personnel to help deal with the situation.
Crisis & News Media
Crisis situations may attract the attention of the news media. It is critically important that media contact in times of crisis follows appropriate procedures to maintain personal privacy and protect or even enhance the reputation of CCC.
These crises include: accidental or criminal situations involving the violent death or serious injury of a staff member or student involved in a CCC sponsored activity (i.e. conference, project, vision trip); and civil or criminal legal actions involving a staff member or the local CCC ministry which may affect the functioning and reputation of the ministry.
In a crisis that may involve the media, call the CRISIS CENTER at 888-899-9292. Also, you may contact directly:
Tony Arnold, Director of Media Relations for the U.S. Campus Ministry, at
Cell # 919-244-3375 or
Tony.Arnold@uscm.org.
Tony can help you evaluate what steps may need to be taken regarding the news media or within Campus Crusade.
In a crisis, if you are contacted by any representative of any news media (TV, radio, newspaper, magazine, web – Christian or secular – especially if they are from a national media outlet), please answer with this statement:
Be sure and get the reporter’s name, media outlet and telephone number. Then, you call Tony and give him the contact information.
Controversial Issues
Our mission is “to turn lost students into Christ-centered laborers”. We want to help build spiritual movements everywhere, so that, everyone knows someone, who truly follows Jesus.
Our focus is not on social security or homeland security. Our focus is on eternal security.
Just as CCC does not take a position on many doctrinal issues, CCC does not take positions on social or political issues. We do not endorse political candidates.
Staff members are encouraged to be responsible citizens, active politically and socially. Extreme care needs to be taken that any comments to the media on issues (i.e. abortion, school prayer, euthanasia) are strictly personal and do not represent CCC. No matter how strongly you personally feel about some issues, commenting on some issues may close the doors to segments of the population we want to reach with the Gospel.
For help responding to media interview requests related to controversial issues, please email Tony at Tony.Arnold@uscm.org.
